How We Work

Development that starts with listening and partnership.

At FORUD, we believe that real development is not something done for communities, but achieved with them. Our interventions are grounded in the lived realities of rural Malawians.

We mobilise local champions, strengthen community-based organisations, and collaborate with district councils and traditional leaders. By linking grassroots realities with national and international development agendas, we help create resilient communities where every citizen can thrive.

Participation First Community ownership from design to delivery
Rights & Inclusion Prioritising vulnerable women, youth, and children
Evidence-Based Solutions Rigorous research and continuous community learning
Thematic Priorities

Our 9 Core Areas of Action.

Our multi-sectoral approach addresses the interconnected challenges facing rural communities, creating synergies that sustain lasting community progress.

Education & Literacy

Promoting inclusive early childhood and primary education, literacy drives, and support for vulnerable learners to stay and succeed in school.

02

Sexual & Reproductive Health

Expanding youth-friendly SRHR services, HIV prevention, maternal health education, and breaking taboos through peer counselling.

03

Climate Change & Environment

Building community climate resilience via agroforestry, watershed management, renewable energy adoption, and tree seedling distribution.

04

Human Rights, Gender & Democracy

Promoting legal literacy, civic participation in local governance, gender justice, and holding duty-bearers accountable to community priorities.

05

Community Rehabilitation

Supporting recovery from natural disasters and economic shocks through restored community infrastructure, clean water access, and social safety nets.

06

Youth Empowerment

Equipping young people with market-relevant vocational skills, entrepreneurship mentorship, leadership opportunities, and active civic voices.

07

Girls & Women Empowerment

Protecting girls against early marriage and violence, fostering girls’ agency, supporting village savings groups, and expanding women’s leadership.

08

Basic Needs & Livelihoods

Improving food security, clean water supply, household sanitation, and sustainable village income-generating activities for vulnerable families.

09
