The Foundation for Rural Development (FORUD) is a Malawian organisation committed to advancing participation, inclusion and sustainable development.
FORUD was established in September 2012 and formally registered with the Government of Malawi on 21 June 2016 under the Trustees Incorporation Rules. From the beginning, our work has been grounded in the belief that the people who are meant to benefit from development should have a meaningful role in shaping it.
We work with communities, citizens and vulnerable groups to strengthen participation, promote empowerment and create opportunities for people to contribute to decisions and solutions that affect their lives.
Our work recognises that sustainable change cannot be achieved by working for communities without working with them. We therefore seek to build partnerships and programmes that place people, dignity and participation at the centre of development.
FORUD's mission is to advance total participation and inclusion by creating opportunities for citizens and vulnerable groups to participate meaningfully in development processes and contribute to sustainable change.
FORUD envisions a society that formally accepts citizens and vulnerable groups, where people are empowered and protected and are able to contribute positively to sustainable development.
